What you will learn and why you should Attend
The 2009 presentation of the annual “Hot Tips” program is one you cannot miss. The agenda includes thirteen interesting, timely and practical topics, taught by an outstanding faculty. In addition to learning from Commissioner Kenneth Macleay of all the recent significant developments in the Commission’s rules and procedures, Wallace Kleid, Joan Adelman, John Schruefer, David Fink and Wendy Karpel will discuss important recent decisions by the Appellate Courts.
You will also receive practical tips from Andrew Kahn on representing claimants in workers’ compensation cases and practical tips for defense attorneys from Robert Erlandson. Ellen Dunn will provide additional practical tips with regard to the Subsequent Injury Fund, and Benjamin Boscolo will provide advice on obtaining approval of counsel fees. Other updates will be provided by Theodore Cornblatt on appellate practice and Frank Lipshultz on settlements involving Medicare set-aside accounts.
Valuable medical information will be provided by Dr. David Buchalter, a prominent orthopedic surgeon, who will discuss the treatment of shoulder injuries, which often have a serious effect on injured workers. Michael Caruso, a well known physical therapist who is particularly involved in functional capacity evaluations, will discuss how these evaluations are performed and their validity. Commissioners rely greatly on functional capacity evaluations in determining the need for vocational rehabilitation and the degree of industrial loss.
In addition to experiencing a valuable learning opportunity, you will have time to network with colleagues and make new contacts among attendees who consider this highly regarded annual presentation to be a required component of their professional development.

Plus, there is an updated topical index, table of cases, and table of authorities.
Workers’ compensation law has never been more accessible. This 14th Edition also includes updated WCC notices, compensation rates, annual adjustments, and all of the new forms from the WCC, plus other forms from the authors’ own practice.
