The Maryland Institute for Continuing Professional Education of Lawyers, Inc. (MICPEL) is the continuing professional education provider for lawyers in Maryland on behalf of its partners: the Maryland State Bar Association, the University of Baltimore School of Law, and the University of Maryland School of Law. MICPEL’s purpose is to provide, throughout the state of Maryland, the highest quality continuing professional education for the practice of law in Maryland through educational programs, publications, and other delivery systems that utilize available technologies in a fiscally responsible manner.
“What is MICPEL?”
is a question we are often asked by new Maryland lawyers. We would like to
take a moment to familiarize you with our organization and the services we
provide for Maryland lawyers. The Maryland Institute for Continuing
Professional Education of Lawyers, Inc. (MICPEL) was formed in 1976 as
a result of the cooperative effort of the Maryland State Bar Association, the
University of Baltimore Law School, and the University of Maryland School of
Law, each of whom is represented on the Board of Trustees. While MICPEL is an
independent entity, it was created to be the continuing legal education agent
of its founding organizations.
Want to know how to hire a legal expert to do hours of research,
prepare sample forms, case cites, and legal summaries and then give you an
hour long practical discussion of a legal problem for under $25 an hour?
Attend a MICPEL program!
MICPEL programs emphasize the practical solutions you will need
in your practice.
MICPEL seminars address all areas of law
utilizing a volunteer faculty of experienced and respected practitioners,
judges, and professionals. In addition, we often contract with
nationally recognized experts to provide a broader perspective or specialized
training to Maryland lawyers. MICPEL courses are approved for CLE credit in
Delaware, Pennsylvania and Virginia. We also submit appropriate programs for
continuing education credit for CPAs, real estate and insurance. Plus, you can
save on your malpractice insurance by attending CLE programs. We will provide
you with a certification of your attendance.
