The release of Pleading Causes of Action in Maryland, 4th Edition marks the first comprehensive revision of the book since 2004, and its most extensive overhaul since its initial publication in 1991

Pleading Causes of Action in Maryland, 4th Edition has been completely revised, expanded, annotated and updated for 2008. Every chapter in the book has been restructured with new subsections for easier navigability, quicker research, and better cross-reference to related causes of action or alternative theories of recovery. New discussion synthesizes the impact of new case law and new statutory changes since 2004. New sample pleadings and authoritative commentary have been added covering: interference with parent-child relations, insurance bad faith-failure to settle first party claim, violation of the Consumer Products Guaranty Act, inspection of Public Records, discrimination under Md. Ann. Code Art. 49B, and a new cause of action under the Protection of Homeowners in Foreclosure Act.

The sample pleadings can be easily adapted to the reader’s specific cases and researching any claim is made easy and quick by Sandler and Archibald’s practical organization of each chapter and section. The authoritative commentary explaining the elements of the claim and the issues to be considered appears in the text immediately after each sample pleading, so all of the authors’ analysis and advice is right there to help the reader develop an acute awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of a case in order to start on the preparation of an initial pleading.

The new 4th Edition is even more comprehensive in scope, but retains its concise individual treatment of more than 130 causes of action — including citations to over 1,700 cases, 380 sections of the Maryland Code Annotated, and 200 provisions of the Maryland Rules, all meticulously catalogued in the Table of Cases and Table of Authorities and carefully referenced to the elements of each sample pleading. Paul Sandler’s and Jim Archibald’s new 4th Edition is simply an indispensable addition to every Maryland litigator’s library.
