The new 3rd Edition replaces the best selling 2nd (2001) Edition of Maryland’s most authoritative book on appellate practice. The 3rd Edition includes updated and expanded information on developments in Maryland and federal appellate rules during the last six years since the release of the 2nd Edition and provides new commentary on recent case law addressing appellate procedure and the final judgment rule.

Among the most interesting and exciting new features of this new 3rd Edition are three recent interviews with Chief Judge Bell, Chief Judge Murphy and Judge Niemeyer. Transcripts of these interviews have been added to the judges’ respective chapters on “the inner workings” of their courts. During candid in-person conversations with Paul Sandler, the three judges shared their observations and opinions on different aspects of appellate practice and their advice to lawyers on how to most effectively handle briefs and oral arguments. The book includes two DVDs of actual oral arguments (and the editors’ observations/critiques of them) in Maryland’s Courts of Appeal and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
